Freetown's Board of Selectmen voted to call a Special Town Meeting for November 9, 2026, opening a citizen-petition window from August 4 to September 8. Chair Carlos Lopes presided as the board approved a $5,970 change order for the Freetown Elementary School fence and a $17,876.77 change order for Fire Station 2 paving, bringing that contract to $79,039.77. Town Administrator Deborah L.

Pettey won approval to hire a $20-an-hour intern and a per-diem procurement assistant, saying "the problem right now is my office in terms of where we're bogged down." Selectman Jared Zager was designated to renegotiate water agreements with Fall River, New Bedford and Lakeville. During public comment, resident Robert Weaver told the board the building inspector "called her in Florida" and cited his 80-year-old sister repeatedly, prompting a promise of a town counsel opinion within three days.
