FREETOWN — The Freetown Board of Selectmen approved a $1,195,000 boiler replacement at Freetown Elementary School and finalized the warrant for the November 9 Special Town Meeting. Town Administrator Deborah L. Pettey warned that rising health insurance costs, up to 12 percent for active employees, are "not sustainable for the town" long term, even as the board approved smaller 2027 retiree rate increases of 5.24 to 6.80 percent.
Police Chief Rose recommended hiring certified officer Rui Martins Jr., calling his four years of outside experience a benefit "going forward," and the board voted unanimously to extend a conditional offer at step three. The board also awarded a $249,000 salt shed contract to Iron Horse Structures and approved mailing warrant notices via KLA Printing for $883 plus $1,055.60 postage.
