Board approves firefighter hire, updates FY27 budget

Freetown board allocates $81,000 for firefighter hire and insurance. The Board of Selectmen unanimously approved fiscal year 2027 budget updates adding $71,000 for a new firefighter position and $10,000 for increased Fire and Police workers compensation insurance costs. Chair Carlos Lopes, members Chad S.

Carvalho and Jared Zager, and Town Administrator Deborah L. Pettey also authorized a $16,630 crane purchase for the water and sewer department, which will eliminate outsourced lifting operations and reduce departmental costs. The Board approved the collective bargaining agreement with the Freetown Full-Time Firefighters Association and two additional water system infrastructure contracts with Apex Companies.
