Freetown Select Board Approves Fiber Contracts and New Driver Check Policy

FREETOWN — May 20, 2024 — Freetown Select Board approved municipal fiber contracts, an annual RMV driver verification policy, and a Board of Health document digitization project at its May 20 meeting. The board unanimously approved two agreements with TelM for fully funded fiber connectivity to town buildings and communications towers, and voted to require annual Registry of Motor Vehicles license checks for all employees driving town vehicles, prompted by the town's insurance carrier. Town Administrator Debbie Petty was authorized to represent Freetown at an August 6 Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission hearing involving a license violation at Mason Road Food Mart. The board also approved up to $60,000 in Bristol County OPEB funds for supplemental sewer engineering at the Four Corners intersection — work Petty said would also support a potential future roundabout — and voted unanimously to approve a change of liquor license manager for Neon Beverage LLC, naming Cara Krelman following a brief public hearing. A student group from Agonquit High School presented survey data and safety arguments for converting the Braley, Gurney, and Chase Road intersection into a four-way stop, prompting Petty to outline the multi-step process — including engineering costs and likely MassDOT review — that any such change would require.
