Freetown Conservation Commission OKs fence fix, reorganizes leadership at July meeting

FREETOWN — July 8, 2024 — Freetown Conservation Commission approves fence modification, reorganizes, and advances $100,000 Porter Pasture donation. The board voted unanimously Monday to allow Down Home Fence owner John Pror to cut wildlife passage openings into an already-installed chain-link fence at a solar array on 1 Thomas Set Way rather than remove and reinstall the structure — an acknowledged oversight by Pror, who said crew instructions were never delivered while he was on a fire department shift. The commission required five evenly spaced 10-foot cutout sections on the longer sides of the 170-by-140-foot enclosure and four on the shorter sides, with work to be completed within two weeks. The board also voted to reorganize, naming Charles Solan chair and Margaret French vice chair, and received word that the Dean family intends to donate $100,000 to fund maintenance at Porter Pasture, with a signed letter of intent expected at the next meeting. A separate unanimous vote authorized purchase of two trash receptacles for the pasture, to be chained in place alongside new litter signage.
