Freetown Conservation Commission halts Boxberry Lane construction, issues three compliance certificates

FREETOWN — November 25, 2024 — Freetown Conservation Commission issues cease-and-desist at Boxberry Lane after finding construction began without approval. Chair Charlie Sullivan said he was "disconcerted" to learn site work had started at 16 Boxberry Lane before the applicant had secured a permit under the Wetlands Protection Act, and the commission voted unanimously to halt all activity pending an agent review of revised plans, with a continued hearing set for December 9 at the Freetown Police Station. The commission also unanimously approved three certificates of compliance — for 35 Copicut Road, 165 South Main Street, and 1 Thomas Set Way — and approved a notice of intent for a two-car garage at 11 Walnut Street subject to a 10-foot no-mow wetland buffer condition. A potential donation of roughly 20 acres at zero Richmond Road, which would more than triple the size of the commission's existing Ice House parcel on Forge Pond, was tabled pending deed and conservation restriction review. The commission also voted to send an enforcement letter to the owner of 54 Dr. Burley Road after the property owner failed to follow up following a prior appearance before the board.
