Freetown Conservation Commission Issues Enforcement Order, Clears Trail Repairs at March Meeting

FREETOWN — March 27, 2023 — Freetown Conservation Commission votes unanimously on seven items, including a wetland enforcement order and trail repair approval. The board, meeting March 27, issued a positive Determination Number 3 against a 112 South Main Street property owner identified as Mr. Weaver, requiring him to file a Notice of Intent and hire a wetland engineer before removing downed trees within the 100-foot buffer zone; a prior enforcement order sent by certified mail had been returned marked "refused." The commission also approved trail repair work at the Freetown Fall River State Forest by the New England Mountain Bike Association, determining that an existing 2021 Request for Determination of Applicability from the state Department of Conservation and Recreation remained valid and covered the area in question. Member Charles Sullivan was unanimously recommended as the commission's representative to the town's newly forming Master Plan Committee, with Sullivan himself casting the deciding vote "out of necessity."
