Freetown Conservation Commission Approves Five Applications, Continues Solar Hearing

FREETOWN — September 9, 2024 — Freetown Conservation Commission clears five land-use applications and continues a 249-kilowatt solar field hearing. The three-member board — Chair Charlie Sullivan, Margaret French and Steve Trip — unanimously approved certificates of compliance for 53 High Street and a parcel on Nottingham Way, and issued negative determinations for projects at 9 Marie Way, 2 Central Avenue, 30-32 Mill Street and the town-owned dilapidated building at 4 South Main Street slated for demolition. The solar field proposed by applicant Robert Nerr at 81 Middleboro Road on a former cranberry bog was continued to September 23 because the project lacks a DEP file number and unresolved state stormwater questions remain. Owners of 173 Chase Road were instructed to retain an engineer and develop a wetlands remediation plan after fill material was found within the 100-foot buffer zone. Sullivan also reported that Zenith Consulting Engineers will deliver preliminary plans for beach and road improvements at Porter Pasture within a week, with a donor's gift expected to be formally accepted by the Select Board the same night.
