Freetown Conservation Commission Advances Pickleball Court, Continues Walnut Street Driveway Hearing

FREETOWN — April 22, 2024 — Freetown Conservation Commission approved a pickleball court for Halfway Park and issued a build order for a Boxberry Lane colonial home at its April 22 meeting. The commission granted a Category 3 negative determination for the town's grant-funded replacement of the basketball court at 21 Water Street, where the entire park sits in a flood zone, with conditions requiring covered stockpiles and erosion controls before construction. Engineer Evan Watson of W Engineering won an order of conditions for a 42-by-28-foot colonial on lot 17 at 10 Boxberry Lane, agreeing to install conservation markers on a proposed boulder wall and post-and-rail fence at the 25-foot wetland no-disturb boundary. The most contested item, a notice of intent for 11 Walnut Street where engineer Robert Anthony is proposing a shared driveway crossing wetlands for a three-lot subdivision, was continued to May 13 after the chair demanded the applicant revise plans to approach the commission's standard 1.5-to-1 wetland replication ratio rather than the submitted 1-to-1 plan.
