Freetown Select Board moves to offer library director post to Nicole Keller

FREETOWN — September 24, 2025 — Freetown Select Board moves to hire library director finalist Nicole Keller. The board voted 3-0 on Wednesday to authorize Selectman Matthew Lopes to negotiate a contract with Keller, a Bridgewater State University administrator with roughly a decade of library experience including management of a $1.3 million budget. Keller said she requires a minimum of three weeks vacation and wants a policy ensuring no staff member works alone in the library building. She also addressed her decision to withdraw from a prior accepted offer at the Holmes Public Library in Halifax, saying she concluded trustees there wanted her to "flip the staff" in ways she found uncomfortable. A completed offer is targeted for the board's September 29 meeting, with Keller saying she could begin as early as October 17.
