Freetown Select Board closes town meeting warrants, approves ball field licenses

FREETOWN — April 28, 2025 — Freetown Select Board finalizes town meeting warrants and approves long-delayed ball field licenses. The board voted unanimously Monday to close both the annual and special town meeting warrants for fiscal year 2026, dropping several unready articles including a school district recall provision and a road layout for Son at Four Corners while adding an article to fund a potential contract with the Freetown Police Association. The board also authorized a letter of support for a federal Community Project Funding application seeking engineering money for a water line extension toward Holland Road, estimated at roughly $1 million with a required 20 percent local match expected to come from water and sewer reserves. In a joint session with the Finance Committee, Police Chief reported that a federal body-worn camera grant was cancelled, leaving the department without a path to fund a system estimated at $100,000 to $130,000. Highway Superintendent Chuck, the lowest-paid highway superintendent in the region by his own survey, requested a 10 percent salary increase, arguing the department had saved the town an estimated $100,000 to $150,000 on recent projects alone.
