Freetown Select Board Awards $550,850 Road Contract, Approves Summer Concerts

FREETOWN — May 5, 2024 — Freetown Select Board approved a summer concert series, awarded a $550,850 road contract, and advanced two new town meeting warrant articles at its May 5 meeting. The board unanimously awarded the chip-away milling and pavement contract to PJ Keating Company, whose bid of $550,850 came in well below competing bids near $700,000; a supplemental $8,000 contract with Greenman-Pedersen Inc. was also approved for slope stability work on Kelly and Quag Road. Five free concerts at the town bandstand are set for Tuesday evenings this summer, with the VFW post opening its lot for overflow parking. New warrant articles for the June 3 annual and special town meetings include funding for a new ambulance — with a two-year delivery lead time locking in pricing now — and a water and sewer mapping project backed by a $125,000 grant at roughly $47,000 in net town cost. Town Administrator Lola reported that State Senator Rodrick has committed approximately $64,000 for a second set of firefighting gear for the fire department, and that the public radio tower project remains on track for operation by late June.
