Freetown Select Board Awards $122,500 Town Hall Window Contract to Unicor
FREETOWN — August 28, 2024 — Freetown Select Board votes to replace all 95 Town Hall windows with white vinyl units for $122,500. The board voted 3-0 at its August 28 virtual meeting to award the contract to low bidder Unicor over competitor CMAT, which bid $130,000 for the same alternate. Town Administrator Debbie Chaves told the board the solid vinyl Jav-brand windows carry a lifetime warranty on extruded members, compared to a 10-year warranty on the aluminum-clad alternative, and that white was the least expensive color option. The board also unanimously approved a $52,000 Change Order One for the fire station building addition, a figure Chaves described as anticipated from the outset after waterproofing sub-bids came in high during the original bid process and were rebid at $132,000 against an $80,000 allowance. Chaves noted a Town Hall HVAC replacement project is next in the capital queue and may require a future town meeting appropriation.
