Freetown Select Board Approves Town Hall Annex Lease, Independence Harbor License Transfer
FREETOWN — November 18, 2024 — Freetown Select Board approves Town Hall annex lease and Independence Harbor liquor license transfer at November 18 meeting. The board unanimously voted to rent Unit 4 at 469 South Main Street through June 30, 2025, using remaining ARPA funds — estimated at roughly $240,000 — to cover the cost, and designated the Building Department and Board of Health as the occupants. Town Administrator Debra Petty framed the move as a stopgap that would free space for internal renovations and improve ADA accessibility. The board also approved transferring Independence Harbor's all-alcoholic beverage license to Narrows Road Events LLC, the entity formed by the Sapphire Event Group, with attorney Kyle Vieira confirming the venue would retain the Independence Harbor name and existing staff. A public hearing on Cho Ahead Custom Cycles' Class 2 license was closed with no action after police reported the location has been quiet since a summer hearing; the license renewal is set for the December 2 agenda. The board set the assistant animal control officer pay rate at $20 per hour with a two-hour minimum call-in, and appointed Edward P. Walsh as a seasonal plow driver at $23 per hour as the town reported only four contractor plow sign-ups heading into winter.
