Freetown Select Board Approves Police Contract, Seven Road Bids Before Town Meeting
FREETOWN — June 2, 2025 — Freetown Select Board ratifies police union contract and clears slate of bids ahead of June 2 town meeting. The board approved a memorandum of agreement with the Freetown Police Association covering July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2028, capping what members described as a faster negotiation than the previous round. Seven fiscal year 2026 roadway materials contracts were awarded on Highway Surveyor Chuck's recommendation, with Saltine Warrior Inc. taking both salt categories and All State Construction winning four stone seal categories. The board approved change order one — $19,760 — for highway department paving work, bringing that total contract to $159,626, and awarded the Freetown Elementary School walkway improvements bid to Gilbane, the lowest bidder, subject to funding at the same evening's town meeting. Member Jared Zager, who recused himself from a separate vote on Zenith Consulting Engineers due to a family conflict, was appointed to both the SER representative post and the regional finance subcommittee seat.
