Freetown Select Board Approves Bulk Road Land Purchase and Vietnam Veterans Wall

FREETOWN — November 17, 2025 — Freetown Select Board unanimously advances Bulk Road land purchase for future civic campus and approves Vietnam Veterans Moving Wall for 2026. The board voted Monday to proceed with the acquisition of a 31.3-acre Bulk Road parcel intended to house a combined Center on Aging and library, extending the purchase-and-sale closing date to January 8, 2026; environmental consultants told members that Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program rules tied to eastern box turtle habitat limit usable development area to roughly 12.5 acres, with permitting expected to take up to a year. A separate vote authorized use of the Select Board's donation account to bring a traveling Vietnam Veterans Moving Wall replica to Freetown around the Fourth of July 2026 at a cost of $8,000, with a $3,000 deposit due up front. The board also approved a letter of intent with New Leaf Energy for a net metering arrangement projected to cut all municipal electric bills by 12 percent, and deferred a $49,120 sidewalk engineering contract with Greenman-Pedersen Inc. for North Main Street after members noted the underlying project had drawn minimal support at a recent special town meeting.
