Planning Board continues composting and recycling permits; seeks battery storage guidance.

FREETOWN — Planning Board continues two special permits pending ZBA hearing outcome. Member David Crose opened the meeting in the absence of Chairman Chad S. Carvalho and Vice Chairman Christopher Mello.
The board unanimously voted to continue the public hearings for special permits for commercial composting and commercial recycling at properties off Chace Road, both under applicant John Mello, to February 17, 2026. The board also unanimously continued a large-scale solar site plan extension request at 3 Quarry Drive to February 3, 2026. Town Planner Nancy Durfee presented materials on a proposed Battery Energy Storage System bylaw, noting the state may mandate towns to accommodate such facilities.
