FREETOWN — Planning Board approves withdrawal of commercial recycling permit at 89 Chace Road. The Freetown Planning Board voted unanimously to approve withdrawal without prejudice of a special permit application for commercial recycling at 89 Chace Road after the Zoning Board of Appeals granted an operating permit on February 4, 2026. Chairman Chad S.
Carvalho presided over the hybrid meeting; a related commercial composting application for applicant John Mello was continued to April 21, 2026, pending engineering review. The board also heard a presentation from Connor Rocket, Clean Energy Siting and Permitting Southeast Coordinator for the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources, on new state-mandated expedited permitting for clean energy projects, which requires municipalities to issue all local permitting decisions within 12 months or grant constructive approval.
