Parade & Fireworks Committee convenes to plan 2026 events, names new treasurer.

FREETOWN — Parade & Fireworks Committee names Melanie A. King treasurer and confirms $20,000 fireworks contract. Chair Judith Gregory led the seven-member committee through planning for the July 4th events, with Carlos Lopes taking charge of the parade on Ridge Hill Road and the committee recruiting vendors including the Lions Club, Berkeley Congregational Church, Girl Scouts, and Firefighters Association.
The committee approved a t-shirt design contest for FES third graders with a May 11 sponsor deadline. Gregory disclosed health concerns that may force her and Clerk Robert Gregory to step aside, with King agreeing to serve as vice-chair if needed; the committee will address succession with the town clerk's office.
