Freetown Select Board Awards Contracts, Approves July 4th Closures and Logistics

FREETOWN — June 17, 2024 — Freetown Select Board unanimously approved more than 20 items at its June 17 meeting, including a three-year curbside trash contract and a local resident's police appointment. The board awarded a $23,400 stone foundation repair contract at Town Hall and the Village Schoolhouse to Dello Construction Services — the sole bidder — and approved a preventive HVAC maintenance deal with Advanced Air and Heat for the police station at roughly $14,500 annually, covering 52 units that had previously operated without a service agreement. The board also approved a PermitEyes online permitting system for the Conservation Commission, with a one-time implementation cost of $10,000 and roughly $5,000 in annual maintenance fees. Robert Nafaras, a Chase Road resident who has pursued a police career through multiple civil service exams, received a conditional appointment as student officer beginning August 26. The Town Administrator reported that bids for the fire station addition came in below budget, though exact figures were not disclosed.
