Freetown library-senior center committee votes for membership expansion. The Council on Aging/Library Community Building Committee voted unanimously to recommend the Board of Selectmen convert two alternate positions to permanent voting seats and eliminate internal category designations, allowing the committee to function as a unified 13-member body overseeing the $26.5 million joint facility project. Chair Carlos Lopes will submit the recommendation to the Board of Selectmen at its August 10 meeting.
The project has received its first grant disbursement of $3 million from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, with the full award totaling $9,325,041 across five payments. Architect Natalie Eiringros presented value engineering options identifying approximately $5 million in potential cost savings through square footage reduction, structural material choices, parking reduction, and deferral of selected amenities.
