Freetown declares emergency, closes buildings as winter storm approaches

Freetown activates storm-response emergency powers ahead of winter system. The Board of Selectmen declared a state of emergency Sunday extending through Wednesday evening, closing Town Hall, the Transfer Station, Council on Aging, and library facilities on Monday. A town-wide parking ban takes effect at 6:00 p.m.

Sunday through Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. Fire Chief Harrie Ashley, Jr. reported Eversource expects five to ten percent of customers to lose power, with restoration within 48 to 72 hours. Police and Highway Departments increased staffing levels to manage emergencies during the storm.
