Agricultural Commission (Town of Freetown) · Meeting of August 18, 2026

Freetown Agricultural Commission unanimously approves Right to Farm bylaw protecting small farms and backyard agriculture. The commission voted 4-0 on August 18 to adopt a bylaw with minimum acreage requirements set by state agricultural zoning definitions, ensuring that small farms and homesteads engaged in food production remain eligible for protection. The bylaw explicitly excludes agricultural aircraft, subject to federal regulation.

Commission Chair Donna Ashley will oversee editing of an accompanying fact sheet, with the commission planning to finalize it and develop a five-year strategic plan at its September 15 meeting.
