Council on Aging approves grants for expanded programming and services

FREETOWN — Council on Aging secures $25,000 in state grants for expanded programming. The board voted unanimously to allocate a $20,000 Earmark from Rep Fiola's office and a $5,000 Empowerment Grant from Senator Rodrigues to support expanded services in fiscal 2026. Director Rebecca Frias recommended using town funds instead of the Council's Formula Grant to add 19 hours to Outreach Worker Kylie Botelho's position, bringing it to full-time status.
The Thursday Breakfast program, beginning February 5 at 9:30 AM, will be funded by the $5,000 Empowerment Grant. The board also voted to purchase two ADA-compliant picnic tables for the pavilion at $1,200 each using the Earmark.
