Committee unanimously backs redesigned COA-Library building at 26.1 million

Freetown's Council on Aging/Library Community Building Committee advances $26.1 million facility design. The committee unanimously voted to move Design Option 2 forward, representing a $4.5 million cost reduction from the initial $31.4 million estimate. The redesigned facility dedicates 67 percent of space to the library and the remainder to Council on Aging operations, reducing the footprint by approximately 1,100 square feet while losing 40 to 50 parking spaces.
A June 8 ballot question will ask voters to approve a $7.5 million debt exclusion spanning up to 20 years, with the matter forwarded to the Board of Selectmen.
