Council on Aging - Library Community Building Committee (Town of Freetown) · Meeting of September 8, 2026

FREETOWN — The Council on Aging and Library Community Building Committee selected Design Option 2B as the preferred design for a $25 million combined community facility. Designer Phil O'Brien presented Option 2B, which features a 1,200-1,300 square foot combined meeting room with improved structural alignment and enhanced window access compared to Option 2A. The committee discussed movable partition walls, office layouts, potential use for town elections and meetings, and night lobby security barriers.

A library construction grant's initial disbursement of approximately $3 million has been received and deposited, with the project anchored to the $25 million budget target. Designer O'Brien has received his Notice to Proceed; the designer contract awaits return from Town Counsel.
