Freetown Board of Assessors abates 40 years of taxes on County Road parcel. The board unanimously approved the abatement of outstanding taxes for years 1967-2000 and 2012-2026 on the vacant property at Map 245, Lot 82, following a request from Treasurer and Collector Patty Rodrick. The parcel is valued at $700, and the town's collection costs over the past decade have vastly exceeded its value.

The abatement was made under M.G.L. Chapter 60, Section 2, adopted at the June 3, 2024 Annual Town Meeting, which permits tax abatement when collection costs exceed value or assessments fall below $25.
