Board approves retiree health insurance policy, capital projects

FREETOWN — Board of Selectmen approves retiree health insurance policy, capital projects. Town Administrator Deborah L. Pettey presented a policy requiring employees retiring after July 1, 2027 to contribute to health insurance at active employee rates, addressing the town's $2.4 million annual health insurance budget and affecting future but not current retirees.
The board voted unanimously to approve three capital projects: a $61,163 Fire Station 2 paving contract with Pawtucket Hot Mix Asphalt (lowest of eleven bids), a $110,000 conservation land purchase at 0 Richmond Road, and a $27-per-ton winter sand contract with G. Lopes Construction. The board also authorized a formal letter to the MBTA regarding deteriorating railroad crossings at Forge Road and Malbone Road.
