Board addresses library-COA building overrun

Board of Selectmen · Meeting of March 30, 2026

Freetown Board of Selectmen approves seasonal staffing rates and addresses library-building overrun. The board unanimously established Parking Control Officer compensation at $22 per hour and Seasonal Beach and Boat Ramp Manager pay at $26 per hour. Pettey reported that a combined Council on Aging and Library building project came in at over $31 million against a planned $25 million budget, creating a $7 to $8 million shortfall. The board indicated it may request voter authorization for additional borrowing at the June town meeting if cost-reduction efforts and grant applications fail to address the gap.
