Assessors Decline to Fine Nonrespondents to Income and Expense Requests
Board of Assessors · Meeting of February 4, 2026
FREETOWN — The Board of Assessors declines to fine property owners for Income and Expense request nonresponse. Chair Paul G. Sadeck moved the Board unanimously to decline assessing fines on property owners failing to respond to Income and Expense requests to be mailed in April under M.G.L.
Chapter 59, Section 38D; Assistant Assessor Mike McCue noted the town has not previously assessed such fines. The Board also discussed but declined to act on a potential exemption for personal property valued at ten thousand dollars or less, which would affect either 309 accounts with $14,269.45 in tax or 256 accounts with $6,161.93 in tax depending on the cap level.
